Get Connected celebrates Helpline Volunteers at Volunteer Awards

Wednesday 12 December 2012

On Monday 10th December, Get Connected celebrated our fantastic volunteer community at our annual Volunteer Awards Ceremony.

Our Volunteer Awards recognise the enormous commitment and dedication of our Helpline Volunteers, who tirelessly deliver our service to young people in crisis, 365 days a year.

The ceremony brought together staff and volunteers who enjoyed a glass of wine (or two!) whilst honouring the unsung heroes of Get Connected.

Amongst the awards were ‘Most Shifts,’ ‘Best Newcomer’ and ‘Longest Journey’ (which totalled an impressive round-trip of 56 miles!). We also had our inaugural ‘Outstanding Contribution’ award, which Melanie deservedly won for nearly ten years on the helpline.

Volunteer Awards 1Emma Valentine, our Volunteer and Training Manager, took to the stage to thank the volunteers, sharing some service users’ comments about the massive difference that they make:

“When I felt sad and alone, you connected me to some places I could talk to for help. Without your help I would probably still be crying. You asked me what was wrong and didn't turn me away. Thank you”

We were delighted to have this opportunity to thank these amazingly dedicated and passionate people for all that they do.
