Linking young people to local services
Do you struggle to find the right help for young people who are facing issues beyond your remit? There are lots of organisations offering help to young people, but it can take time to find the right one.
Get Connected is a gateway to over 13,000 services in the UK, both statutory and voluntary, local and national.
For each young person who contacts us, we open up this huge range of options and help the young person navigate through them to the most appropriate help. We're entirely neutral, and only connect a young person to the service that they feel is right for them.
For example, a teenager in Hull calling us for support after her grandma has died can be referred to Wyngs Bereavement Service in Hull, where she can receive support in person, or connected to Cruse Bereavement Care, the national helpline.
If you're working with a young person who has concerns outside of your remit, or want them to have access to a wide range of support after they've left your care, just pass on Get Connected's number, email address or web address.
Get Connected is particularly useful for young people who are facing more than one issue, can't afford local or national rate phonecalls, or aren't sure they're ready to seek help.
With the permission of the Social Worker concerned, we can connect a young person to their Social Worker if they can't afford the call or are too distressed to explain their situation without help. We can also find their local Doctor's surgery, sexual health clinic or hospital.
Please note we rarely make connections to NHS Direct, as this service prefers calls to made from the service user's own phone number.
You can contact the helpline on behalf of a young person
Get Connected takes calls, emails and webchats from adults concerned about young people regularly. We're happy to discuss the situation with you, explore the options available to the young person, and give you the details of any services you think might be useful to them. If the young person you're concerned about contacts us later, we won't share any details of your conversation, and vice versa.
